Testimonials from Ottawa Residents
I struggle with vertigo and on most days cannot make it out of the house. Thankfully with Therapia I don’t have to worry about getting to a clinic. My home physio is helping me with the dizziness and I get along so well with my therapist.
Never thought I’d be able to heal in my own home with the best of physio care. I’m working through issues with disc bulge/herniation in my neck, twice a week and already seeing results after 2 weeks. Thank you Therapia, for making life livable again.
We chose to work with Therapia for my son’s muscle spasms, who has Cerebral Palsy. What a great decision it was. My son is comfortable and happy in his home setting and the physiotherapist is really great with him.
Twice a week I have a Therapia physiotherapist come over for my back and neck pains. Since starting treatments, I see great improvements.
Activities and Resources in Ottawa to Help Speed Up Your Recovery
You might be further along the healing path and eager to try new activities. If so, we encourage you to visit some of the following locations in Ottawa to assist you in your recovery.
Strathcona Park is one of the oldest parks in Ottawa and boasts a beautiful display of mature trees. This is a wonderful park to take a leisurely stroll at any time of the year or a bike ride during the warmer months. With a considerable stretch of walkway along the Rideau River, it makes for a breathtaking view on a morning walk. Being a paved path, it’s an even surface to walk on for those healing from a foot, ankle or knee injury. The park is pet friendly, so bring along your furry companion, but only if it doesn’t compromise your ability to maintain a suitable pace and your footing. The unique charm about this park is that it includes what appears to be the ruins of an ancient Greek temple. In actuality, it’s a variety of fragments extracted from historical buildings in Ottawa, like the Parliament Building, the Chateau Laurier and the Royal Canadian Mint. They’re a lovely spectacle to witness and sit among as you relax in contemplation.
Being more embedded in the wilderness, Pinhey Forest is another great place to carry out your daily cardiovascular exercises, any day of the year. Being a conservation area in the Greenbelt, it possesses a distinct natural feature that might surprise you: it’s Ottawa’s only inland sand dune complex. In other words, it’s a unique ecosystem showcasing a number of plant and animal species for you to behold as you journey through the trails. Pinhey Forest features 6.4 kilometres of paths that are perfect for hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. These paths cut through the most picturesque scenes, are flat, and therefore easy to traverse by foot. Free parking is available year-round at the P14 and P15 parking lots. Make sure to wear insect repellent during the warmer months, as Pinhey Forest is known to have more mosquitos in general.
In the heart of Elgin Street, you’ll find one of Ottawa’s best yoga studios. What’s to love about this place? Elevate Yoga offers a variety of classes for both novice and advanced students, along with a few different styles of yoga to suit anyone’s tastes. One type of class they hold is called yin yoga, which is a slow-paced, low-impact class that focuses on accessing connective tissues, breath and alignment. It’s perfect as a post-surgery activity, or after removing a cast or brace, as it helps to gently develop mobility in the muscles and joints. The studio also holds meditation classes, which are highly recommended to help manage stress.
Jack Purcell Community Centre and Pool
You might want to include swimming as a recovery activity in your physio treatment plan. Even simply wading in a warm pool will have a therapeutic effect and help release your tension. Jack Purcell Community Centre has an excellent swimming pool for just that purpose, and it’s in a convenient central location. At 92°F/33°C, the water is quite warm, so it won’t shock your body. It’s quieter in comparison to other pools in Ottawa, so you’ll have ample space to do your laps without others splashing around. Grab bars in the pool are there to grip onto if you need them, and you’ll have access to floatation devices. Water aerobics classes are available, as are specialized programs for individuals with special needs.
Renu Massage Therapy and Spa
Engaging in healthy movement is your goal as you follow the treatment plan prescribed by your physiotherapist. But you mustn’t forget to also carve out some time from your schedule for therapeutic massages. They’re just as important in aiding the healing process. Massages assist with blood circulation and help restore mobility in the tissues. They also help manage stress by lowering cortisol levels in the body. As far as maintaining health, that means everything, especially if you are recovering from accident-related trauma. You’ll love the vibe at Renu Massage Therapy and Spa. More than 400 people share the same sentiments, evidenced by a 4.8-star rating on Google reviews. They have a wonderful entourage of massage experts, and you can also treat yourself to one of the many spa services offered there. Repeat visits to this establishment are guaranteed.
A Personal Letter from one of our Ottawa Physiotherapists
Hi there! I’m Veronik Bourgon, a proud Therapia physiotherapist. I moved to the charming city of Ottawa in 2004 where I completed my Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy and then went on to specialize in Vestibular Rehab. I have called Ottawa home ever since.
I pursued full-time homecare in 2013 and fell in love with treating people directly in their homes. Having found Therapia in 2018, I was instantly impressed by the simplicity of their technology platform, the wide range of client needs, and excellent patient feedback. It’s been wonderful seeing my clients improve by following their personalized therapy regimens.
One of my Therapia clients had returned from overseas with a hip fracture. After a failed surgery, she required another one to fix her hip. We began a customized in-home program to help her regain the ability to walk. Within weeks, she was walking again! She’s now a firm believer in the benefits of physiotherapy and is pleased with how effective the home-based treatments were for her injuries.
If you want a tailored therapeutic approach in your home without the hassle of hectic and time-sensitive clinics, Therapia is for you. Our experienced physiotherapists will create a program to suit your needs in a timely and effective manner.
We look forward to treating you!
